Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Several area blood drives have been set up to meet the overwhelming demand for blood in the wake of Superstorm Sandy.
The Red Cross says it was forced to cancel more than 200 blood drives due to the storm, resulting in the loss of more than 7,000 blood donations in the Northeast and about 9,000 blood donations in 14 states along the East Coast.
The Red Cross expects additional cancellations and losses of blood donations as areas affected by the storm deal with its aftermath.

Thursday, 11/01/2012- Liverpool Blood Donation Center, 7359 Oswego Rd, Liverpool, 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Friday, 11/02/2012- Liverpool Blood Donation Center, 7359 Oswego Rd, Liverpool, 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Saturday, 11/03/2012- Dewitt Community Church, 3600 Erie Blvd. East, Dewitt, 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
- Northside Baptist Church, 7965 Oswego Rd, Liverpool, 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
- Liverpool Blood Donation Center, 7359 Oswego Rd, Liverpool, 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
All blood types are needed – especially type O positive, O negative, A negative or B negative.
Thousands upon thousands of blood donations are needed each and every day to meet the needs of accident victims, cancer patients, and children with blood disorders, according to the Red Cross.
