LIVERPOOL, NY (WSYR-TV) - An ongoing effort to maximize state education funding continued in Onondaga County on Saturday.
The 2nd Annual Advocacy Conference and Workshop was held at Liverpool High School.
Parents, taxpayers and school staff from across Central New York were educated on the key fiscal issues facing districts and how they can work with their state legislators to push for change.
In the last 3 to 5 years, the Statewide School Finance Consortium said schools have lost out on 8-billion dollars in state funding.
"So the schools are struggling. They’ve eliminated programs, they’ve eliminated staff and they’re also using up all their fund balances and some of them are actually looking at an education or physical insolvency,” said Dr. Rick Timbs, the Executive Director of the Statewide School Finance Consortium.
In the next few weeks, people who attended the Conference will get the chance to meet with their respective state legislators for a casual sit down and discussion on education funding.
