NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) - Police say they're investigating a report that a person has jumped into the water and gone over Niagara Falls in a possible suicide attempt on the U.S. side.

New York State Park Police aren't releasing any details Tuesday and haven't confirmed the report, which comes a day after a man survived a 180-foot plunge over the Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side. Authorities believe that man was trying to kill himself. He's recovering in a hospital.

Suicides are common at the falls, but authorities don't routinely report them out of concern they'd encourage copycat attempts.

Rocks at the base of the U.S. side mean a fall there isn't considered survivable.
