Rescued puppies on road to recovery in Oswego County
Bernhards Bay (WSYR-TV) - Nine puppies and their mother are on the road to recovery after they were found locked in a crate and abandoned on Friday in Oswego County. Those who found the dogs on their lawn called on Marietta Kenney in Bernhards Bay to pick them up. Kenney named the mother Abby, which is short for abandoned. "She was extremely thirsty when I got her. She had nothing in the crate with her, no water no nothing," said Kenney. "We just picked up the crate, put it in my car and brought her here." Kenney said she is licensed through the NYS Department of Agriculture & Markets to run Didi's Dream Farm Horse and Animal Rescue on Railroad St in Bernhards Bay. It is a small but important operation in her opinion, because she said there is a lack of organized animal cruelty enforcement in Oswego County, leaving her with new dogs to care for all the time. "It kills me because they're living breathing beings, and they need your love and affection and they trust you. I am their voice right now. They don't have a voice, and that's why I do what I do," said Kenney. She pays for veterinary bills with money made from her $250 adoption fees. The new puppies won't be ready for adoption for at least another 9 weeks. They look to be just a few days old and they only weigh a few ounces. Kenney said they're some sort of Pit-mix. They'll be taking their first trip to the vet on Monday. Kenney believes there are too many other animals around Oswego County that won't have the same lucky fate if owners aren't held responsible for not taking care of their animals. "The people who bring them into this world by not spaying or neutering their animals- they should be held accountable," said Kenney.
