Colonie (Fox 23 News
) -- Authorities were called to the Sears store in Colonie Center on Tuesday night when a 56-year-old retired State Police investigator reportedly shot himself in the leg.
According to Colonie Police, the victim, 56-year-old Robert Talbot, of Ballston Spa, had accidentally shot himself in the knee with his own .22 caliber revolver while changing his clothes.
As one can imagine, just less than a week since the Colorado movie theater massacre, the thought of a loaded gun in a public place didn't sit well with shoppers.
"But why does he have a gun, that is the question? Why does anyone carry a loaded gun in the mall?" asked Colonie resident, Keith Brewster.
Patty Pinkham, also from Colonie, was at the mall with her husband and children, and was shocked to hear what happened, especially because of what happened in Colorado.
"You have to question why, it is scary," Pinkham said. "You have to trust that things are going to be find you can't live to be afraid."
Talbot was taken to the hospital with what police say appear to be non-life threatening injuries. He is expected to be okay.
