Syracuse (AP/WSYR-TV) - The Rosamond Gifford Zoo is opening a new exhibit featuring three grey wolves born earlier this year.

Officials at the zoo say the wolves named Romulus, Remus and Sylvia are siblings who were born on April 22. Their standard quarantine period is over, so the wolf pack is ready to greet the public when their exhibit formally opens Thursday.

As part of Wolf Awareness Month, the zoo is hosting a Wolf Awareness Weekend on Saturday and Sunday to welcome the new canines.

Hunting and destruction of their habitat have led to the near eradication of grey wolves in the lower 48 states. But the wolf is making a comeback in some regions of the U.S. because of strong conservation efforts.
