Fulton (WSYR-TV) - Jamie Prue never realized how much the death of her brother and sister had affected her son, Ben. The impact became clear years later, when he announced plans for a Crush Cancer Campaign, involving a marathon run from Maryland to his uncle's home in Fulton, NY.
"He woke up a year ago and decided he wanted to do it for his aunt and his uncle and his family, and not just his family, but everybody who has lost somebody too young to cancer," explained Jamie Prue.
Ben Hall mapped out a journey that took him across more than 350-miles during two weeks. With each step, he collected donations and raised spirits.
"Every single hotel in every single city I stayed in donated my lodging. So, I didn't pay a dollar for lodging this entire trip," Hall recalled. "It was the generosity of so many people, just sitting around and having dinner, people would give me cash and tell me to donate it, and I did."
On Saturday morning, as Hall entered Fulton, he was met by several friends and relatives. Together, they completed the final stretch to the home of Hall's late uncle. Thanks to a big donation at the finish line, Hall shattered a $5,000 fundraising goal. The only thing he wanted at the end of the trip was a hug from his two small children and a tall glass of water.
