Fulton (WSYR-TV) -- A fugitive from South Carolina was arrested Monday morning in Fulton. The man was found by police in a car with the woman he's accused of kidnapping.

You'll find Edward Lamar Moses right at the top of Darlington County, South Carolina's Most Wanted List. After a year on the run, a routine call about a suspicious car in a parking lot, led Fulton Police to a fugitive.

"There were two warrants for Mr. Moses out of South Carolina for attempted murder, kidnapping, and possession of a weapon," said Fulton Police Sgt. Ralph McCann.

Moses was considered a dangerous man in Darlington County, where he reportedly chased his girlfriend with a gun last year and attempted to set her on fire with lighter fluid. When deputies arrived, Moses took off and eventually headed to New York.

When police approached Moses in a Fulton parking lot, they asked for identification and the man who has been a fugitive in South Carolina for months, handed them a New York State benefits card.

"I asked him what he was doing here...why he moved here, his story changed a few times,” Sgt. McCann said. "He just told us that he wanted to start a new life here. Get away from South Carolina."

Police discovered Moses sitting in the car with the same woman he's charged with trying to kill and kidnap. He claimed she was with him voluntarily.

Suspected fugitive Edward Lamar Moses said, "Me and her are still together, so the charge is really nothing."

With charges also pending in Georgia for aggravated assault with a weapon, Fulton Police are glad they could help send Moses back to the South in custody.

Sgt. McCann said, "You never know what you are facing everyday here. I'm glad we can help out another agency."

NewsChannel 9 reached out to state officials to find out how a benefits card from social services ended up in the hands of a fugitive. Our email was not answered Monday night.

In the meantime, Moses is being held in the Oswego County Jail awaiting his extradition back to South Carolina.
