Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The Syracuse University men’s and women’s basketball teams kicked off their first season in the ACC Friday night when they hosted Orange Madness at the Carrier Dome.
The men’s team is less than a year removed from a Final Four appearance and has a preseason top-10 ranking in USA Today Coaches Poll.
C .J . Fair has been tabbed as the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year and the Orange has been picked by the conference’s coaches to finish second behind Duke.
The evening featured a dunk contest, prizes, and music.
School officials say measure were taken to avert last year’s incident, in which they shut down the event after a stabbing.
This year, the school charged $5 per person. They believed that charging for the event helped create a sense of order.
They also cancelled an appearance by rapper Ace Hood, who is known for his explicit and violent lyrics.
