SU peace officer recovering after lightning strike
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A peace officer is recovering at Upstate University Hospital after a lightning strike on campus.
A second officer was also taken to the hospital after the incident. He has been released.
According to SU police, Stanley Prue and Ed Weber were on patrol and had stopped their car shortly before midnight in a parking lot near the Skytop administration building.
When Prue stepped out of the car, Weber reportedly heard a loud “bang” and saw that Prue had “disappeared.”
Weber said he was disoriented. When he recovered, he discovered Prue lying on the ground approximately four or five feet from the car door.
Weber then called for an ambulance.
Prue is now conscious, but said he is in a great deal of pain.
