SUNY Brockport murder victim identified

DEWITT, NY (WSYR-TV) - 21-year old Clayton Whittemore has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend at SUNY Brockport.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office tells NewsChannel 9 the victim's name was Alexandra Kogut.

The Sheriff's Office says the cause of death is blunt force trauma.

Police say Whittemore who is from New Hartford, was arrested at a service station off the Thruway in Dewitt Saturday.

According to WKTV in Utica, Whittemore graduated from New Hartford High School and played hockey there.

Whittemore is not a student at SUNY Brockport.

The arrest comes after Kogut was found dead in her dorm room at about 2:45 Saturday morning.

Investigators say she had extensive trauma to her body.

SUNY Brockport students held a vigil for her Saturday night outside of her dorm building.

Whittemore is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Thursday.
