Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- The Salvation Army is working to make Christmas a little brighter for the less fortunate. On Friday, thousands of families will benefit from the Christmas Distribution Day at the Oncenter.
Volunteers have been busy preparing bags full of presents. Toys and food will be handed out to 3,000 families. The need will, in part, be met because of Wegmans. The grocery chain dropped off a trailer full of food to the Oncenter on Thursday.
"We want to give back," said Evelyn Carter with Wegmans.
Not only has Wegmans donated thousands of pounds of food, but your Red Kettle donations have also helped pay it forward for those in need this holiday season.
Central New Yorkers have donated more than $170,000 to Syracuse area kettles and almost $13,000 to the Salvation Army's online Red Kettle campaign
The Salvation Army’s Christmas Bureau Drive wouldn’t be possible without your donations and the many volunteers who help make it a success year-after-year. Volunteers have put in 26,000 hours worth of work since Thanksgiving.
For the past five years, the Christmas Bureau has served more than 14,000 families and more than 35,000 children.
