Shroeppel (WSYR-TV) - The Schroeppel Town Board voted against a controversial plan to open a gravel mining operation Thursday evening.

When a Central Square-based construction company attempted to get 30 acres of land rezoned to start operations, Schroeppel residents spoke out. They argued the plan would have a negative impact on the environment.

“This is our water,” said Mike Lattimore. “We’re not talking about eliminating a corn field. We’re talking about eliminating water.”

The protestors cheered as members of the Town Board voted against rezoning the land along County Route 12.
