Senate votes to name post office for slain CNY Marine

Baldwinsville (WSYR-TV) - A US Post Office in Baldwinsville will be named after a CW Baker High School graduate who was killed serving in Afghanistan.

A Lysander native, Marine Cpl. Kyle Schneider died during a combat operation in Helmand Province in June 2011.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand introduced the legislation and her office announced the Senate’s decision on Thursday.

She described Schneider as “truly a hometown hero.”

Schneider’s parents, Rick and Lorie, said they appreciate the special tribute to their son.

He was 23 years old when he was killed by an improvised explosive device.
