Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Senator Charles Schumer is reintroducing legislation to crack down on the theft and sale of stolen scrap metal.

Just last summer, nearly a dozen metal flagpole holders were stolen from the graves of war veterans at the Assumption Cemetery in Syracuse.

Schumer also points to folks stealing copper piping form abandoned and foreclosed homes.

The legislation would require recyclers to document the scrap metal they purchase and cap the amount they can pay for it.
