Sex offender pleads guilty in burglary, assault case
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A sex offender who was accused of breaking into a Mattydale apartment and brutally beating a 12-year-old boy pleaded guilty on Monday.
Scott Miles, 35, of Wilshire Drive in North Syracuse, will serve 20 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to burglary – the top count he was facing.
According the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, Miles may have been looking for the boy’s mother when he encountered him after breaking into the apartment. They said he attacked and severely beat the child.
They said the victim recognized Miles’ face when his mother was chatting with him on Facebook. Law enforcement officers said that Miles had illegally assumed an alternate identity on the social media website.
He will be sentenced on May 14.
