SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) - Former NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal made an appearance at the SU men’s basketball game on Saturday at the Carrier Dome.
While being introduced at halftime, O’Neal lifted Syracuse University Chancellor Nancy Cantor above his head at center court.
The four-time NBA champion then spoke to the crowd about why he was really in town.
"I'm here directing a "Stupid Drink" campaign to try to get kids to avoid binge drinking. I graduated from directing school four months ago and this is one of my first projects. I want to say thank you to the Syracuse students, they did a great job," said O’Neal.
The award winning "Stupid Drink" campaign was developed by Syracuse University students in 2009.
The Century Council, a not-for-profit funded by distillers, works to prevent college binge drinking and has sponsored the campaign on campus.
Syracuse is one of five Universities chosen to further explore the potential effectiveness of student generated campaigns to prevent binge drinking on the nation’s college campuses.
O’Neal was recently asked to be the face of that campaign.
