DeWitt (WSYR-TV) - Bread and bottled water were popular items at Wegmans in DeWitt, leaving some shelves nearly empty as Central New Yorkers stocked up ahead of Hurricane Sandy.

Central New Yorkers were reporting via social media that there are similar conditions at other stores around the area.

The DeWitt Wegmans had signs up where shoppers could normally find water. There were barely any bottles left in the store Sunday afternoon.

The store expects deliveries Monday to restock the shelves.

The most popular types of bread were sold out, but there were still some other loaves left for sale.

Some canned vegetables were available Sunday. Apple sauce, broth and cereal were all thinning out quickly.
