Sheriff’s Office: Small homemade explosive device found in Cincinnatus mailbox
Cincinnatus (WSYR-TV) -- A small homemade explosive device was found in a mailbox in the town of Cincinnatus on Monday, Cortland County authorities said.
The Sheriff’s Office says the device was found in a mailbox on Telephone Road at around 7 a.m.
The device caused “minimal damage” to the mailbox, however the Sheriff's Office said the device consisted of a jar filled with material.
The Sheriff's Office said it's concerned that the material could have injured a homeowner or damaged a vehicle.
Authorities aren’t sure if this was a remote incident, but they’re asking residents to be alert when checking their mail and to report any suspicious items in their mailboxes.
