New Woodstock (WSYR-TV) -- Sheriff’s deputies in Cayuga County are investigating an attempted burglary at a Madison County post office.

Authorities say a postmaster discovered Tuesday morning that someone had broken into the building along School Street in New Woodstock.

Investigators have interviewed members of the staff and people in the neighborhood and with the help of postal inspectors, are taking inventory to see if anything was taken.

According to the sheriff’s office, there have been other burglaries in recent days in various areas of Madison County, however, they don’t appear to be related to this incident.

If you were in the area of the post office between 5:30 Monday night and 7:30 Tuesday morning and noticed anything suspicious, the sheriff’s office would like to hear from you. Call them at 366-2429.
