Ovid, New York (WSYR-TV) - Sheriff's Deputies say a 14-year-old boy, who had not been seen from since Friday evening was located Wednesday morning in a barn on his family's property.
Cody Sabol of State Route 414 in Ovid was found just before 11am. Sheriff's Deputies say Sabol was located in good health by search teams from the Ovid Volunteer Fire Department and the NYS DEC Forest service.
Sabol, who was first reported missing on Friday at about 6:45pm, was found after several searches of the area. Sheriff’s Deputies had searched the property several times between the first report and Monday.
On Tuesday, local volunteers from the Ovid Fire Department, with extensive knowledge of the farm land and wooded areas were called in to search on ATV’s and by foot. The NYSP helicopter was also called in to assist with a search of the area around the home.
Sheriff's Deputies say that search was suspended around 7pm.
Wednesday morning, a second search was conducted using the same volunteers and included seven volunteer mounted horseman and women who searched woods and hedgerows. The second search concentrated on property across Route 414, to the west of the home and also a re-search of the area gone over on Tuesday. The Sheriff's office says the second search yielded negative results. However, with new leads, that were developed on Wednesday, the buildings on the property were searched again which resulted in the discovery of the young man.
It's not clear why the boy disappeared from his home Friday.
