Lake effect showers are holding on southeast of Syracuse this midday.  However, conditions aloft will become increasingly unfavorable for these showers. The air over us is drying and warming. These showers should end early in the afternoon. The gloomy skies that we woke up to this morning will give way to sunshine later in the afternoon, as high pressure and drier air moves in from the west.  As low pressure near Maine moves away from us, we expect gusty northwest winds to decrease through the day, setting us up for a quiet and cool night tonight..

The cool air won’t be with us too long, however, as another push of mild air heads back into central New York for Wednesday.  We could be close to 70 again.  This warmth precedes the next system approaching us later Thursday and Friday with some showers.

As of right now, the weekend looks to be unsettled. Our models are in a bit of disagreement as to timing of rain that is going to pass through, but it does look as through temperatures will be back down to the lower 60s, which is not too far off from what is normal.
