Syracuse (WUTR-TV/WSYR-TV) - The government shutdown that has lasted 10 days has left more than 800,000 federal workers furloughed and is starting to impact many services we are used to.
The shutdown could cause problems as we head into the heart of flu season because the CDC’s website isn’t being updated.
Flu clinics are already underway and local agencies depend on flu data from the CDC.
"September through May we check Flu View and that tells us over the past 24 hours new cases, new genetic strains, variants, trends analysis, that sort of thing and it's not there," explained Joanna Daeschner, a registered nurse at Workplace Vitality.
Experts are urging you to play it safe in the meantime and get your flu shot.
“Let’s do what we can. Do get your flu shot because we do know that is the best way to protect yourself from the three or four strains you receive in that vaccine," Daeschner said.
