Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - The Singing Sidewalk in front of Syracuse Stage is ready to join the holiday spirit.
The unusual city walkway will soon feature Bing Cosby’s “White Christmas” theme.
According to Sound Designer Emmett Van Slyke, the feature is designed to make music more interactive.
“Using sounds that have an archetypal treatment that gives us ideas or memories and then kind of slowly bring us into the theater world from the outside world and then retransition us back out,” Van Slyke said.
He said the idea was to make the whole plaza into an interactive computer exhibit. Van Slyke says the idea was to turn the whole plaza into an interactive computer exhibit. He says everything is in key with everything else.
“It’s a really cool way to see how technology interacting with people in the Syracuse community, it’s really kind of a progressive area, it a great way to display that I think,” Van Slyke said.
Van Slyke has a two-year contract. Four times a year it is switched out to create another series of sounds and music to correspond with the play happening at Syracuse Stage.
