Cicero (WSYR-TV) -- A father and his young son were rescued after their snowmobile got stuck in some open water in the South Bay Tuesday afternoon.

An assistant fire chief at the scene told NewsChannel 9 that the two were riding on a trail that runs between power lines. A rescue sled and snowmobiles were used to bring the two back to safety.

“You know, we still have a lot of open water, nothing’s really frozen yet, so they got to be really careful out there,” said Assistant Fire Chief Dave VanNamee, South Bay Fire Department.

VanNamee says the father called 911 from the stuck snowmobile. A state helicopter was called in to assist in the rescue, but wasn’t needed.
