Solvay (WSYR-TV) - A Solvay teenager is in the spotlight for rescuing a woman who fell and broke her leg. The teen was on his delivery route for the Scotsman Penny Saver when he heard her cries for help. The two met for the first time since the incident on Wednesday.

The first time they met, Tyler Konder was delivering his papers, just like he does every other Sunday. When he got to Delores Bongo’s house in Solvay, he discovered she had broken her leg and fallen.

Bongo Shares the house with her dog, Liesl.  “I took her out and somehow or another, it broke and I fell on the grass,” Bongo said.

Dolores was scheduled for a femur operation later in the week, but it didn’t hold up that long. “I started to call for help and on both sides, my neighbors were gone for the day,” Bongo said. “I was just about out of my voice.”

During the 45 minutes that passed between her fall and Konder’s arrival, Bongo said she thought about what would happen if nobody passed by to rescue her. “I might have to crawl to the front yard but I guess that's the worst thing that you can do,” she said.

Konder left Bongo’s Pennysaver in the box, and was about to continue his normal route to the neighbor's house when he found her. “I heard someone screaming for help so I ran back there and called 911,” Konder said.

He took care of Bongo’s dog Liesl by taking her inside the house. Konder said this was difficult because Liesl was afraid for her owner. “She was scared. She didn't want me to leave her,” Konder said. “I had called her and she wouldn't come to me.”

Since the fall, Bongo got the operation she was originally expecting, and is now in rehab. She'll get to go home next week.

Wednesday, when they met for the first time since the fall, Bongo was excited. “This is the first time I've seen him since lying down on the grass. I'm so glad to see him,” she said.

Two people who had never met, now have a link that neither will forget.
