NEW YORK (AP) - There's a new PlayStation -- but we can't see it yet.

Sony talked about its upcoming PlayStation 4 console for the first time yesterday.

Presenters played games that were projected on screens in a converted opera house. But the PlayStations themselves were hidden backstage.

Sony's Jack Tretton says it will be comparable in size and color to previous consoles. Pricing wasn't revealed. But Tretton hints it will come in lower than the PlayStation 3 system when it was introduced in 2006, $500-$600.

Sony says the PS4 will essentially be a "supercharged PC," much like an Xbox. That's a big departure from the old and idiosyncratic PlayStation design and should make it easier for developers to create games.

The new PlayStation should be on the market by the holiday season.
