New York (WSYR-TV/WETM-TV) – An Elmira man is still in jail in New York City after allegedly threatening a US Congresswoman over her gun control laws. Police say 39-year-old Ronald Buchanan of Elmira made death threats
to Carolyn Maloney because of her stance supporting gun control.
He has been charged with aggravated harassment and menacing, according to New York Newsday
According to court documents, on April 2 an intern at Maloney’s office in Manhattan received two to three phone calls from Buchanan.
The documents indicate that Buchanan said the following:
- "That stupid (expletive) needs to stay away from my Second Amendment right."
- "I hate that stupid (expletive), I hope that (expletive) (expletive) dies from cancer and I want that (expletive) dead."
- "I will (expletive) kill that (expletive) if I see her."
Police were able to track the calls to Buchanan’s cell phone.
In his own defense according to court documents he stated, “I made calls to her. I did not mean them as threats. I wanted her and others to know that if the government takes away people's second amendment rights, then the people would rise.”
