Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - The 78th edition of the Valley Field Days is just getting started, but earlier nearly 1,000 special needs children got to spend the day enjoying the activities at Meachem Field.

Organizers say it couldn't happen without the hundreds of volunteers.

"The Fire Department, the Police, the Men's Club, they come whether they're working or volunteering. They're here every year, they're on every ride and they help all the kids. They help everybody. They're wonderful," said summer school coordinator Julie Sayles.

The Valley Field Days run through the weekend at Meachem Field, located just off West Seneca Turnpike.
