Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – This year’s Grand Marshal of the St. Patrick’s Parade has Irish roots that run deep and a lot of experience in parades.

US Attorney Tom Maroney was announced as the Grand Marshal of the 31st edition of the parade on Jan. 10.

For years, Maroney played the fife for the Fife and Drum Corps for the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

A native of the city’s North Side, Maroney spent much of his career as a professor at the Syracuse University law school where Vice President Joe Biden was among his students.

His parents both came from County Clare in Ireland.

The parade will be held Saturday at noon and aired live on NewsChannel 9.

The parade begins in Downtown Syracuse at Clinton Square.
