State of the State: Cuomo expected to push gun control, Sandy aid
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo plans to deliver his third State of the State speech this week, setting an agenda that includes gun control and raising the minimum wage.
Among the topics expected in Wednesday's address are a new ban on assault rifles and high-capacity clips for bullets in the aftermath of the Newtown, Conn., school shooting.
Cuomo will also again push for raising the minimum wage. He will also need to keep fighting to secure billions of dollars in federal aid for victims of Superstorm Sandy and establishing preventive measures for the next big storm.
New Yorkers can expect surprises in the form of a creative new program or law to lead the nation or a huge construction project.
