Onondaga (WSYR-TV) -- An off-duty firefighter on his way home from work discovered a house fire in the town of Onondaga and rushed to respond Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the scene in the 1800 block of Bellevue Avenue where most of the fire was contained to the second floor of the home.

Officials say no one was home at the time of the fire.

Deputy Fire Chief Steve Cavuto told NewsChannel 9, “He put one fire out earlier and picked up another one in his way home in his civilian clothes.”

No word yet on what caused the blaze.
