Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Orange Nation is gearing up for Saturday's game against Tulane in the dome and head coach Scott Shafer wants to see the stands packed, so the university is offering students free tickets to the game. But students with season tickets are throwing a flag, questioning the university's call.
SU knows their cheering section will be important this weekend, so they hope Gate E has one of the longest lines possible.
To accomplish that, the Carrier Dome is letting full-time students in for free.
“I was looking online for a really long time for tickets and then I got that information and was really excited about it. I went right over to the dome, got my ticket and my gear,” said student Rosa Fink.
But not every student is happy. Some students have purchased season tickets, which can cost more than $200.
“If I knew they were just going to give free tickets away, why would I buy my tickets and spend that much money,” said student Anthony Kordziel.
The Carrier Dome sent an email to season-ticket holding students that said:
"We would like to offer you an additional complimentary student ticket for any of the remaining home football games or a student ticket for one of our non-conference Men's Basketball games."
The games not included in season tickets are ones played when the college is on winter break, but Kordziel says that won't work.
“I’d have to drive four hours from Upstate New York to come down see the game and if I have the ticket ready, and there's a huge snowstorm, I won't be able to make it to the game in convenience and gas money too,” Kordziel explained.
NewsChannel 9 reached out to the university and we’re told students can use the free ticket in addition to their season ticket to bring a friend of family member to a game.
The students NewsChannel 9 spoke with say they haven’t heard the details clarified and that communication would help in unifying Orange Nation.
