Geddes (WSYR-TV) - 1,500 high school students showed off their vocational skills Thursday at the State Fairgrounds. They showed off their construction, cooking, hairdressing and other skills for the Skills USA Competition.
"These students are well trained in job skills and career readiness skills," said Cheryl Winstel of the State Education Department. "They're the best of the best competing across the state."
"The fact that these kids are just 15 to 18-years-old speaks volumes that these kids will step up," said Chef Mary Kiernan, who oversaw some of the cooking competitors.
The competition's awards ceremony will be held Friday morning at 9:00 in the War Memorial.
