Syracuse (CNN) -- Most kids aren't getting enough physical education, according to a new study.

University of Georgia professor Bryan McCullick looked at schools in all 50 states. He found most schools are coming up short with physical education (PE) guidelines.

In fact, he says only six states implemented enough gym time for elementary school students. He says no states had strong enough regulations at the high school level.

McCullick says the pressure to raise standardized test scores may be to blame. He says schools may be cutting PE time so students have more time to hit the books.

Right now, there are no federal guidelines for PE. But the National Association of Sport and Physical Education recommends elementary school kids get 150 minutes of exercise per week.

It says older kids should get 225 minutes a week.
