It’s another warm and somewhat humid day over central New York.  A layer of moisture creeping up the spine of the Appalachian’s has lead to a mix of sun and clouds across the region but that hasn’t prevented us from rising into the mid 70a already. We still think the chances for thunderstorms are low but they aren’t zero.  If there is going to be a spotty thunderstorms it would probably be over area east of Syracuse.

Friday will be another warm day, with temperatures soaring well into the 80s.  All week long, we’ve been wrestling with the timing of the above mentioned (weak) cold front.  Some of our computer models are indicating we could see scattered showers and thunderstorms pop up ahead of this front tomorrow afternoon.  If this is indeed the case, the timing of the front would be such that it could end up to our south Saturday, increasing the chances for a dry day.  It should be noted that any storms that form tomorrow may have very heavy rain and strong wind gusts.

The weekend forecast is complicated by the fact that we’ll be right on the northeast periphery of a searing holiday heat wave, which will envelope much of the central US and Ohio Valley.  Weak disturbances rippling along that edge of the heat, could bring us an isolated thunderstorm at just about any time.  Early indications suggest that the greatest risk for thunderstorms will be on Sunday.  The warmest day looks to be Memorial Day when temperatures will make a run at 90 degrees!
