Auburn (WSYR-TV) – A community of supporters gathered at a vigil for hope and healing for baby Easton Friedel at a church in Auburn on Thursday night.

The infant is battling a rare and potentially deadly skin disorder called Epidermolysis Bullosa, or EB.

Baby Easton, who is about to turn 8 months old, is in critical condition at the hospital.

The Central New York community has rallied to support the child and his family.

“Just the strength that we have seen of their entire family coming together around their baby boy is amazing. It's inspiring really,” said vigil organizer Jessica Wrench at Lakes Church on Genesee Street.

“A simple little child that's only 7 months old can bring so many people together most people don't know each other but they've become our friends, supporters and helpers,” said the child’s grandfather, John Friedel.

Baby Easton returned to the hospital nearly two weeks ago.

He’s currently on a vent and under sedation.

On Thursday, his family said that his oxygen levels were improving and holding steady.
