Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – American couples spent more on weddings last year than at any time since the recession struck in 2008.

According to CNNMoney, families spent an average of $28,427 on wedding ceremonies and wedding-related events. In 2008, they spent $29,334.

CNNMoney obtained the result from a survey of 17,500 couples conducted by TheKnot.com.

Couples in Manhattan spent the most at $76,687; Alaska registered on the other end of the scale, with couples spending an average of $15,504.

They say couples spent more in almost every category, including the photographer, DJs, flowers, and invitations.
