Norwich (WSYR-TV) – A man who was shot and wounded after firing at officers in Chenango County last month is now charged with attempted murder of a sheriff’s deputy.

Patrick W. Ford II, 41, of Fuller Road in Norwich allegedly fired about a dozen shots at two deputies and a state trooper on August 30, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office said.

Ford’s truck became stuck on a utility pole guy wire and the officers had responded to the scene. The sheriff’s office said Ford’s 9-year-old son was with him.

Deputies got the son to a safe area and attempted to get Ford to drop his weapon. The sheriff’s office says Ford would not comply and was shot.

Ford was arrested and charged with 1st degree attempted murder after being released from Upstate University Hospital, where he had been being treated for the past several weeks.

He was arraigned in Town of Pharsalia Court and sent to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail

The Chenango County District Attorney is reviewing the case and may file additional charges.
