Suspected Food-Stamps fraudsters charged in Oswego County

Oswego (WSYR-TV) – An Oswego County couple was arrested by Sheriff’s Deputies on charges that they defrauded the welfare system.

John Russell, 33, of Birch Lane in Oswego and Tammie Russell, 32, of Oneida Village in Fulton were charged with grand larceny in the third degree, welfare fraud in the third degree, and offering a false instrument for filing, all felonies.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the couple fraudulently collected Food Stamps from May 2008 through December 2008. They say the couple defrauded the system out of $3,000.

The Russells were arraigned in Granby Town Court and released on their own recognizance. They are scheduled to appear in Town of Mexico Court on Aug. 28.
