Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- Syracuse Police are investigating a two-car crash that happened on I-81 southbound Thursday night.

Police say the accident happened just before 9 p.m. about a quarter mile from the Adams Street exit.

Syracuse Police Sgt. Gary Bulinski says a Dodge van driven by a 50-year-old woman rear-ended a Ford Focus, causing it to go down an embankment and into a light pole. The impact caused the light pole to crash down on top of the Focus.

The 30-year-old Syracuse woman who was driving the Focus was taken to Upstate University Hospital as a precaution.

The driver of the van was not hurt.

An investigation into what caused the crash is ongoing.
