Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse Police say they will provide security at Carousel Mall movie theaters in the wake of a mass shooting in a theater in Colorado.

Early Friday morning in the Denver-area community of Aurora, a gunman killed 12 people and wounded dozens more at a showing of "The Dark Knight Rises" before being apprehended. Police in Colorado say the suspect used guns and an explosive device in the incident.

Syracuse Police say they will be present at Regal theaters as a precaution against “copycats” and “to raise the comfort levels among movie patrons.”

The New York Police Department announced earlier on Friday that they would provide additional security at showings of "The Dark Knight Rises."
