Syracuse bishop to oversee Rochester Diocese temporarily

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse Diocese Bishop Robert Cunningham will oversee the Rochester Diocese after its own bishop announced that he has retired.

According to the Syracuse Diocese, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Cunningham as Apostolic Administrator.

He will oversee the Rochester Diocese until a permanent bishop has been appointed.

Bishop Matthew Clark announced his retirement Friday morning, effective immediately.

75-year-old Bishop Clark served the Rochester Diocese for more than 33 years.
