Syracuse man arrested after striking store manager with belt and stealing hat

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A Syracuse man was arrested early Friday morning after reportedly striking a drugstore manager with a belt and running off with a stolen hat.

Police responded to a robbery complaint at a Rite Aid location on Butternut Street in the city around 2:15 a.m.

The store manager told police that he confronted the suspect before being struck with the belt.

The manager was not injured.

Police found the suspect minutes later on North Townsend Street in Syracuse.

They charged 39-year-old Donald Coryea, 148 Furman St., with robbery in the third degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, and harassment in the second degree.

He was taken to the Justice Center and scheduled for arraignment in Syracuse City Court on Friday morning.
