Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The Salt City has earned a spot near the top of a list of cities with dubious honors.
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation ranks Syracuse at No. 25 on its list of top 100 “Fall Allergy Capitals.”
Scoring in the list was based on factors such as pollen counts and use of over-the-counter and prescription medicine use.
The Foundation cited local pollinating weeds including amaranth, goosefoot, ragweed, and sage as some of the culprits inducing sneezing and wheezing among Central New Yorkers.
One other Upstate New York city stood higher on the list than Syracuse – Buffalo was ranked No. 16 among the nation’s allergy capitals.
No. 1 on the list was Wichita, Kan.
