Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse police say they have recovered the gun that was allegedly stolen from a Cortland County Sheriff's officer last week.

Police say they received a call at about 10:45 Monday morning that two teens were seen passing a gun back and forth to one another while bicycling along South Geddes Street, headed toward Delaware School.

Two officers who arrived at the scene were spotted by the two teens, and they each ran in separate directions. The 911 caller, who remained on the line, told police which one had the gun, and the police chased him down, catching up with him in the backyard of a home at 255 Fitch Street.

While in pursuit, police say the suspect, Anthony Navarro-Perez, 18, of Syracuse, tossed the gun away.

Police recovered the .40 caliber Glock semiautomatic handgun, which was reported stolen by the Cortland County Sheriff's Department last week.

Police say the gun was fully loaded.

Navarro-Perez faces charges of criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.

The Cortland County Sheriff's Dept. says it is continuing its investigation into the theft, as well as several others in the same area in the Town of Homer.
