The October chill that was over us this weekend must have been a trigger for me.  I took advantage of the cool but sunny weather Sunday to take the deck furniture down into the basement. It was a bittersweet moment.  I did, however, leave a couple of chairs out just in case we do get some Indian Summer weather down the road.

My wife cut down most of her summer flowering plants and it was a good thing.  The official low this morning in Syracuse was 32, the first frost of the season.  Not unusually early by our standards.  The normal date of the first frost in Syracuse is October 15th.  Later this morning I’ll try to remember to post some of the colder readings from last night.

It may be a chilly stretch here but nothing like the cold and accumulating snow over the Rockies and Plains the past few days.  They couldn’t play the Rockies-Phillies game in Denver Saturday because of snow.  No snow Sunday evening in Denver but it was the coldest playoff baseball game in history. Still chilly there today and they will likely be in the 30s for this evening’s game.

A piece of that cold air mass is oozing it’s way to the east and although it will moderate a bit before it gets here our temperatures for mid week will still be quite a bit below normal.  Instead of low 60s for highs we could be looking at mid 40s.  Ouch!

One thing we have to keep a close eye on for the end of the week is a system that will move out of the Southeast and then move along the East Coast.  A few days ago it looked like this low would come close to us Friday and give a widespread chilly rain but the computer models are now a bit farther southeast with that low which makes it more of a glancing blow for central New York Friday and Saturday.
