Montezuma (WSYR-TV) - New York State police say traffic moved "very slowly" after a fire in the eastbound lane of the thruway.

People in several vehicles passing by called 911 around 11:55 a.m. on Sunday to report the fire, which appeared to involve a trailer used to transport animals.

Emergency dispatchers sent crews to mile marker 311 in the Town of Montezuma.  An alert from the New York State Thruway Authority advised of slow traffic and long delays between exits 40 and 41.  Traffic was flowing smoothly again by 3:00 p.m.

New York State police are handling the investigation.
