Auburn (WSYR-TV) - As concerned vendors worried about the wind toppling their tents, the board of directors for Central New York's TomatoFest faced a dilemma.

"We came together as a board and decided for everyone's safety, it would be best to close for Saturday," said board member Tom Tracy.  "We took a big hit today."

Proceeds from the event at Emerson Park on Owasco Lake in Auburn supply help for local food pantries.  Tracy said the potential for damage was too big to move forward.

Vendors had arrived in the morning and started setting up for the fest, which was slated to begin Saturday at 11:00 a.m.  The tops of a couple of tents were blown off by the wind.  There weren't any injuries.  But, organizers were spooked enough to call festivities off at 10:30 a.m.

Vendors have been advised to prepare for a longer day Sunday, with events now scheduled to begin two hours earlier, at 9:00 a.m.
