Ithaca (WSYR-TV) -- The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office is sponsoring a gun buyback program in an effort to get guns off the streets of Central New York.

On January 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., you can go to either the Ithaca Fire Department – located at at 310 West Green Street -- or the Tompkins County Airport Fire and Rescue building and turn in your gun. Cash will be paid for some of them and you’re guaranteed immunity from any type of prosecution.

The goal is to help remove unwanted guns from the community before they fall into dangerous hands. To learn more about the program, CLICK HERE.
